Cross-Platform Solution by Vakoms
Helps to Reduce Negative Effects
of Sedentary Work

A company from Latvia having an ambitious intention to create an extremely useful solution for those who sit behind computers all day long.

Today people spend plenty of time in front of different screens - both in their work and at home. This is a real issue and it causes different health problems - from simple fatigue and back pain to spine or eyesight diseases and even cancer.

The only way to avoid these problems is to have regular breaks and workouts. But how could the users be made to do so?

The Client came up with the concept of an interesting and efficient tool - a desktop application called Fitster. The program had to periodically block the computer, offering a user to do simple physical exercises.

As the app was intended to run on Windows and Mac OS X, it was commissioned to Vakoms - a software development firm with the profound experience in cross-platform solutions.

The cooperation was established within the fixed price scheme. For this project Vakoms assembled a team consisting of 1 PM, 2 cross-platform Qt developers, 1 web engineer, and 1 QA specialist.

The application was written in C++ language in an advanced crossplatform application framework Qt, and the Back End was done using PHP.

As planned, what Fitster does is locks the computer within manually adjusted timeframe. During the break, a user is prompted to do physical exercises, like squats, push-ups, etc., which are shown on the screen. It is claimed that all of 90+ exercises are developed in cooperation with physiotherapists. After the workout you gain scores, which can be shared with friends on Facebook. All statistics and achievements are stored in your personal profile.

Fitster was recognized as a truly efficient fitness app. Here are some of the proven benefits:
