Vakoms opened an R&D in Wrocław, Poland
In October 2022, Vakoms opened a new department in Poland. The new office is located in one of the modern business centers of Wrocław.
Andriy Shevchyk, managing partner and CTO at Vakoms, commented on the event:
“The plan to open a new office has been in our minds for some time already, and the war just gave an impetus to implement it. In addition, a long-term Vakoms client wanted to commission us on a new project, but was uncertain about starting it in Ukraine, for obvious reasons. Then the client floated the idea that we open a subsidiary in another country, which will do for him to cast aside any doubts. And that’s what we did. Having investigated a few locations, we agreed on Poland.”
Poland was good for several reasons, including geographical proximity to Ukraine, low language barriers, similar mindset, and employment policies. Despite some differences, the neighboring country seemed the best choice. Apart from these points, Poland is a great support to Ukraine during wartime.
Wrocław was chosen because of the wide range of workplace opportunities it offered. Furthermore, the local government encourages starting of new businesses and secures a favorable environment for them to develop.
Pavlo Pelekh, managing partner and CEO at Vakoms:
“The process of opening a new business in Poland is pretty bureaucratic — well, not unlike other European countries. Despite a lot of red tape we had to deal with, Polish managers did their best to help us. In the end, we’ve made it and our choice was justified.”
Vakoms now rents a flex office so the team can work there two days a week and during client visits. The rest of the time the employees can work remotely. Vakoms is hiring for the Polish office, Java developers are in high demand. For the first project, Vakoms is going to hire 15 employees. Later on, the company plans to have 50-100 employees in the Polish R&D department.
